MUSIC - Carol Pemberton

Carol is a founding member of the Black Arts Forum and passionate about the arts generally, especially music.

She has over 30 years experience in Arts and Business Administration and is Founder (1987) and Musical Director of Black Voices, Europe’s most celebrated female a cappella ensemble.  Carol has toured extensively with the group locally, nationally and internationally across all continents over the 31 years since the group formed.

Carol has established a range of outreach programmes in ‘singing in the black oral tradition’ for schools, community choirs, choral groups and Higher Ed and has delivered courses at the prestigious Dartington International Summer School annually since 1992. It is in recognition of this that Carol was awarded an MBE for services to music in 2014 and a Mixed Blessing Award for successful leadership of Black Voices in 2015.

For over 20 years, Carol has supported and mentored a range of choirs and artists, sharing her knowledge and experience of navigating the Arts in the UK.  Carol presented the Gospel Train series on Radio 2 - 1995 - 1999 and was a judge on the recent (2017/18) pilot TV series for Sky 1, Sing Ultimate A cappella.
